If I asked you to describe:
Your relationship with food right now
How you feel in your body
How exercise fits in - or doesn’t - when life is busy
You might go straight to one of the below - most people I speak to have a common list.
“I’m too busy to do anything about my fitness or nutrition.”
“I’m fine during the day then I snack at night after dinner.”
“I’m either on it - or I’m off it.”
“I look after everyone else first.”
“I eat whatever I can at work, then I’m rummaging later.”
It's really important to recognise, these are patterns, and patterns are not permanent. Patterns can change, but patterns are also not random - they’re usually doing a job.
They help you cope with stress.
They help you get through tiredness.
They help you survive work life where breaks are unpredictable and your brain is making decisions all day for other people.
But if you never stop to reflect on your patterns, you just keep living inside them.
Same loop, different day:
Push through on fumes
Get home and finally exhale
End up grazing / picking / “just having something”
Feel annoyed, promise you’ll be better tomorrow or after the weekend
then tomorrow looks suspiciously like today
Once those patterns embed you stop seeing it as something you do - and start treating it like something you are.
“This is just me.”
“I’ll always be all-or-nothing.”
“I’m just not consistent or motivated.”
You can’t change a pattern you’ve never properly looked at.
Once you can see the loop and interrogate, you can interrupt it.
Not with willpower. With an actual plan that fits your life.
